Running a church takes a lot of behind-the-scenes work that most members never see. Someone has to record contributions, keep the books, issue payroll checks, and maintain updated member records. Small churches often rely on volunteers using a patchwork system of spreadsheets and software programs that either don’t understand ministry or only help with one task.
We created FlockBase to help those churches.
Jerry Walker, CPA founded FlockBase in 2006. He was serving as the volunteer treasurer at his own church while also working with other small churches, and he saw a need that nobody was meeting. Some software companies offered programs to track member information and contributions, others offered bookkeeping programs, but there were no solutions that incorporated true fund accounting, member records, and contribution tracking in one package. This left treasurers like Jerry having to piece together different systems and spreadsheets to keep track of their church’s finances.
Since he couldn’t find an existing solution, Jerry decided to build one himself. He built the original version of FlockBase as an all-in-one church management solution that small churches could afford, and that volunteer church treasurers could easily learn to use, even without an accounting background.
Today, Jerry is still a co-owner of FlockBase, but he is now joined by Kevin Chessher, CPA. Kevin joined FlockBase in 2018 with his own accounting and ministry experience. He spent over 20 years as an Executive Pastor, gaining knowledge about not only church accounting, but also the day-to-day operations of a church, from staffing to member care.
Together, Jerry and Kevin’s expertise in fund accounting and church operations guide every feature of FlockBase, reflecting their firsthand understanding of how to run a small church.
